CAITLYN ROSE

Born 2 months Premature by emergency caesarean, on the 31st July 2005, at Monash Medical Centre. Caitlyn was born with a rare condition called 'ARTHROGRYPOSIS MULTIPLEX CONGENITA'. She was unable to move her limbs properly due to her muscles being constricted. Caitlyn was also born with clubbed feet, cleft palate, an underdeveloped bottom jaw, and a displaced trachea being further forward and to the left of centre making it basicly impossible for her to breath without the help of a ventalator. On many occasions the doctors attemped to remove the ventalation but Caitlyn couldn't cope without it, on one occasion it was so difficult to re-intubate her that her right lung was pierced and it colapsed, she was 2 weeks old. For 10 weeks Caitlyn had doctors baffled as to what they could do for her, sadly Caitlyn's condition deteriated and we were forced to make the decision to take her off the ventalator machine. On Tuesday 11th October 2005 Caitlyn was just not coping, one look at her and i could just feel that she was tired, that she didn't want to fight anymore, she was in pain. Surrounded by loving family and friends we removed the ventalation at 3am Wednesday 12th October. Caitlyn passed away in my arms at 5am. Caitlyn's funeral was held at Tobin Brothers Funerals on the 21st of October, and she was buried at Hastings Cemetery. Her funeral was as perfect as it could have possible been, her coffin was decorated in beautiful fairy and butterfly stickers, there was lots of pink and purple glitter, we asked that all our family and friends wear some pink or purple on the day. Pink and purple balloons were released at the burial. I had to make the day absolutly perfect and that it was.
